    Description

This listing is for an antique United States Rubber Company No. 76 Giant Chain Tread 28” single tube 2-ply wood rim bicycle tire. We have two of these. The date code for one is U-3-A and the other is U-G-T. Let us know which one you’d like when you buy. Neither have any patches. Part of the U-3-A is warped. We do not guarantee that the tires are rideable. However, they would look good on a display bike. We also have a couple of these in 20” and 24” on other listings.
This item will be packed very securely in a picture frame box.
I’m probably going to regret eliminating these tires because I have over 100 wood rimmed bikes – many with bad tires. The American Pickers showed the warehouse where I had over 200 tires (Season 19 Episode 9). I am moving the tires from that warehouse. The new location is still out of the sunlight but is a brighter room so the tires won’t be as well preserved. I’ve decided all of my tires will be put up for sale. Look at the description and photos. I will describe them as best I can as well as show any flaws I see.  Most of these tires are American made.  If it has a date code we research to see the date and where it was built. For you guys that want an 80 year old bike to ride I suggest you buy a reproduction tire to ride on.  I have restored a handful of bicycles and some 1940’s Indian motorcycles and I used the reproduction tires for riding.  It’s getting harder to find the original older tires that have been well preserved. These make fantastic display tires.
