    Description

    Melissa and Doug toys and puzzles are long recognized for their quality and their attention to educational goals for children.  This all wood puzzle, all 52 pieces, feature a large solid color alphabet piece with both upper and lower case letters displayed, and a more colorful word piece that will only interlock with the appropriate letter piece.  In this way, children are able to associate the letter with its appropriate letter sound as it is found in the name of the item.  Children are able to work with this puzzle on their own and learn or review the letters and their sounds.
    Additionally, the 52 wooden puzzle pieces are stored in a sturdy pine box with a sliding plastic lid so that it is easy for children to keep the pieces together in this compact storage unit.  On the back of the box, the manufacturers have added 9 additional activities that children can undertake using the letter puzzle.  These are educational, such as alphabetical order, matching letters with pictures that contain the letter sound anywhere in the name or using the pieces to incorporate into a creative story using the child's imagination and story telling skills.  This set can be used by the individual or by a group to learn and create.  The box measures 12 inches long and 3 inches high.  Each double piece is about 6"x 2 1/2 " .The pieces are all in good condition except for the seal piece that is the mate for Ss.  It has a small piece of wood chipped from the tab that interlocks with the Ss letter piece.  Please check the photo of this.  Thank you for looking.
