Vintage 1960s Indonesian Silver Brocade Balinese SONGKET SHOULDER CLOTH

Textiles of the past: This silver and pink length of traditional Balinese songket brocade cloth is all handmade, a time-consuming and intricate task. This is a unique authentic collector dowry textile, hard to find today especially older ones and in good condition. Handmade dowry textiles are passed from one generation to the next and used mostly for ceremonial purposes or on formal occasions. The silk fibers are woven with strands of real silver to make a metallic brocade. The fabric catches the light beautifully, but is tough to photograph well. Any dark areas in the pics are just the way the light was reflected back. This piece was collected in Bali in the 1960s. It measures 27 1/4" x 57" and is pretty heavy, because of the silver. It was still wrapped in the original cloth and had never been used. Shipped USPS Priority Mail.
