Blood, guts, fish: The glamorous world of salmon stripping: Jen Scott is a nurse by trade, but for the last 30 years she has been cleaning salmon for anglers in Pulaski. Scott uses her vacation days — she calls it her “salmon sabbatical” — to stand in rubber boots all day, elbow deep in salmon guts, a fish she doesn’t particularly care to catch or eat. She doesn’t do it for the money, or to relax, or for the glory. So why, then? “I love the people,” Scott shrugged. “I love seeing everybody, that’s my favorite thing. The virus is deadly to young elephants once the immunity they have acquired from their mothers wears off. But the twins were recently vaccinated against the illness. They are among just a handful of elephants in a vaccine trial.
